Day 6 - Chile

Today was always going to be a long day as we bus, boat, bus, boat, bus, boat and bus across the Andes to Chile, but we didn't expect a traffic jam in Puerto Varas which delayed us by an hour. We didn't end up arriving until 9:45 pm which when we set out at 8:15 was a long day. Below is the route.

The first boat journey was 1.5 hours and was beautiful with clear blue skies and turquoise water. Some idiots on the boat insisted on feeding the seagulls which was amusing but not when one of our group was bombed.

The view from the boat

After that boat we had to clear emigration in order to leave Argentina. We then had a short bus ride and crossed into Chile.

First bit of sightseeing in Chile

In order to clear border controls we had to get our passports stamped and then identify our bags and unlock them in order to have them searched. What a faff having to unlock 2 suitcases and 2 cabin bags and then open two rucksacks and a handbag.  Fortunately I had declared my stash of teabags, milk powder, biscuits and cereal bars and we were allowed through. Lunch followed and then we had another very pleasant 2 hour boat trip before the 3.5 hour bus ride.

Volcanoes from the boat

Smoking Calbuco volcano taken from the bus

Osorno volcano photographed en route to the hotel. We have a lake view room and should be able to see this across the lake when we wake in the morning.

At last we arrived at the hotel and were greeted with a Pisco sour which was lovely. As it's now after 10 we couldn't be bothered going out for food so instead have had two cups of tea, one and a half twix bars each and are about to have a whisky. Very healthy!!!!! Cheers.
