Today we say goodbye to Chile and re-enter Argentina. Our last night in Chile was very noisy as the wind howled all night, we'd never heard anything like it. We had a large panoramic window in our room which rattled and shook with the wind. There was a point when Himself was worried that the bed I was sleeping in was in danger because he feared the window being blown in. It certainly wasn't a restful night, which is a shame because today we are on our way to El Calafate, made famous by Jeremy Clarkson's hi jinks. We have been forewarned that there is two days of partying starting today as they celebrate the Festival of the Lake. Great, we'll join in except that the party goes on until at least 2:30am both nights so there will be little chance of sleep. We had one night of loud music in Puerto Natales but at least that stopped at 11:30 pm.
There hasn't been much to report today other than that it is a travelling day by coach. We reached the border after three hours and we very quickly exited Chile.
We were then in no mans land for 4 kms until we reached the Argentinian border control. Efficient they are not and considering they only had to stamp the passports it took two hours of standing in a queue. Very frustrating but eventually we were back on the bus for a 5 mins drive to where our Argentinian driver and coach were waiting. We all piled off our Chilean bus and onto our new bus. The baggage was all transferred and we were off, 208 kms of a totally flat landscape that appears to be nothing but scrub. We just see vast open spaces with no people and not that many animals. We expected the place to be overrun with beef cattle and sheep.
Group photo taken yesterday, as you can see the 4 mile walk was worth it.
