Day 12 - Fly to Ushuaia

This holiday is rapidly moving on and today we are up early in order to be out of the hotel and on our way to the airport for our next flight to Ushuaia, the most southerly city in the world. At least we will be saying goodbye to the cold when we have our next flight to Buenos Aires in two days time.

The view from El Calafate airport lounge. Possibly the best view ever whilst waiting for our flight.

Our plane coming in, better late than never

We expected El Calafate to be a bit like it was portrayed in Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear escapade but it was nothing like that. It was a very pleasant little town that had a real buzz about it although as the main industry is tourism the shopping was mainly tourist tat. We did have the best meal of the trip last night though. Whilst the food has been OK it's the lack of veggies which eventually gets to us. Nobody else seems to eat the amount of veggies that we do.

World map in the airport.  We are now right down at the tip of South America.

Arrived at our hotel to find the rooms weren't yet ready so busied ourselves having lunch and then going for a leisurely swim, steam, sauna and jacuzzi. Lovely. Eventually our room was ready and it's very nice. A bit quaint and chintzy but very nice all the same.

View of Ushuaia from our room. Tomorrow we will be sailing on the Beagle Channel, the stretch of water you can see.
